Yoga is an ancient science of self-realization. It is a system designed to help us remember our truest nature. Over the years, this system has been adapted and modified for an easier integration into modern life, however the central aim remains the same – to inquire into who we really are.

Samarasa Center is a safe community for explorers, seekers, wanderers on this quest. We provide various modalities of yoga, knowing that different paths can lead to the same Truth when practiced in earnest and with integrity. We hope you’ll find something here that resonates with you. All are welcome. Come as you are.

Class Descriptions

Yoga + Meditation

In this class, we use the physical body to consciously access the subtle body and explore the interconnectedness of all of the aspects of the being – physical, energetic, emotional, mental, spiritual.

In this class, we use the physical body to consciously access the subtle body and explore the interconnectedness of all of the aspects of the being – physical, energetic, emotional, mental, spiritual. The physical component of the class will provide students with opportunities to explore the inner posture through a moderate flow. Following movement, students will sit in sustained meditation to conclude the practice.

Yoga + The Work of Byron Katie

This class is a practice of embodied inquiry. We use the practice on the mat to inquire into our thoughts and beliefs – bringing awareness to the stories we tell ourselves on the mat and noticing how they often reflect the stories we tell ourselves off the mat in our daily lives.

This class is a practice of embodied inquiry. We use the practice on the mat to inquire into our thoughts and beliefs – bringing awareness to the stories we tell ourselves on the mat and noticing how they often reflect the stories we tell ourselves off the mat in our daily lives. This class provides a safe container to explore and make peace with our own mind. An aware and peaceful mind creates a peaceful reality.

Each class consists of a hatha yoga practice as well as facilitations (group and individual) of The Work.

It is suggested (but not required) that those new to The Work attend one of the bi-monthly Intro to the Work of Byron Katie workshops for a deeper understanding of this system of self-inquiry. You can also visit thework.com/en for more information.

Hatha Flow

This class is designed to re-connect you to the innate wisdom of your own body. Hatha flow harmonizes the physical body with the subtler aspects.

This class is designed to re-connect you to the innate wisdom of your own body. Hatha flow harmonizes the physical body with the subtler aspects of the being by providing you with a balanced sequence of postures for stretching and strengthening the body and cultivating an awareness of the mind-body-energy connection. Each class ends in a deep relaxation for energy to flow to the areas of the body most in need of rejuvenation and healing.

Classes range from moderate to vigorous in their intensity.

Slow Flow

This is a practice in slowing down the body to quiet the mind. This is a flow-based class requiring a different kind of intensity than a faster paced vinyasa-style class.

This is a practice in slowing down the body to quiet the mind. This is a flow-based class requiring a different kind of intensity than a faster paced vinyasa-style class. Postures can be sustained for longer periods, to facilitate states of introversion and introspection in which the mind can become immersed in the inner world and external distractions fade from awareness. Classes range from gentle to moderate in their intensity.

Gentle Flow

This class explores standing and floor postures with both ease and strength. Includes slow vinyasa flow aligning mind, body and breath.

This class explores standing and floor postures with both ease and strength. We begin seated with ujjayi breath (taught each class) to align breath, body and mind. We ease into movement, from gentle floor postures to slow vinyasa flow and standing sequences, checking in with the breath at each stage. We end with deep relaxation for integration of the practice. Plenty of space is offered for students to listen to their bodies and to use as much or as little effort as desired in each moment. All levels welcome.

Fundamentals

This class breaks down yoga postures and transitions focusing on alignment and flow. Builds strength and flexibility, includes basics of breath and meditation.
